Zero McKenna Celtic Talks as Craig Bellamy Pledges to Welsh National Team

Both have been linked with the coaching position at the Premiership title holders following the former manager's resignation on the start of the week.

McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native former Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a special position here at a special club. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Context and Contractual Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and announce what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

The coach agreed to a fresh four-year contract in last year and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Position

The former striker played for the Hoops on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales striker is minded to finish the ongoing global tournament campaign, a position that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

Wales are currently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would book their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of making those, thanks to a successful Nations League performance, even if they not finish as Group J runners-up.

Considering his present stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement concludes after the European Championship, would be unavailable until after the play-offs at the minimum.
