Three-time Most Valuable Player Jokic suffers a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.

Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half during an unintentional coming together with teammate Spencer Jones.

Jones stepped on the foot of the MVP, who instantly collapsed to the floor clutching his leg.

The 30-year-old, that tops the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the game prior to incurring the setback.

The player is scheduled for an scan on the following day to assess the extent of the problem.

"Right away, Jokic understood he was hurt," commented Denver coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that is injured, that's tough to see, especially a player as important as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, right now, I am more concerned primarily about Jokic personally and the letdown of going through something like that."
