The Three Lions to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will embark on their 2028 European Championship journey at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward qualification for a championship hosted across the majority of the UK and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s match since May 2016, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to host the Three Lions for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The English side are planned to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the playoffs at Everton’s ground.

Championship Kickoff and Rally

The event was unveiled at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were confronted as they approached the venue by about 50 activists, who called for Israel to be removed from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Signs were displayed with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Schedule

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will include Wales if they secure a place.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract households and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are due to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches played at the national stadium of each host.

The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.

“The event will be a competition for the followers and a celebration of everything we cherish about the game – its passion and capacity to bring people together.”

More than three million tickets, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be made available to fans.
