Our Finest 10 Sci-Fi & Fantastical Series of This Year

What would you do with boundless control? That's a core inquiry posed by the finest sci-fi and fantasy stories. Imagine if you were granted superhuman abilities? Perhaps discovered a miraculous drug? Or if each and every single person became wholly committed to your personal happiness? Could you use such power for the greater good, or would you succumb to your baser instincts?

These television series featured herein all confront that very concept in various ways (with one key exception). Presented here is our countdown of the 10 top installments of science fiction and fantastical TV from the past year.

10. Spider-Man: Your Friendly Neighborhood

Despite over six decades of history, Spider-Man continues to be reimagined by fresh creative voices. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man offers a novel perspective at the hero's formative days, cleverly merging classic source material story beats with ideas from other adaptations to create something that feels simultaneously fresh and profoundly compelling.

Rather than being solo or having Iron Man as a mentor, this version of the hero develops a complex relationship with Norman Osborn, who in this story is merely the CEO of Oscorp. Through their dynamic, Peter grows into his own man, internalizing the iconic mantra of great power and great responsibility.

9. Hazbin Hotel Season 2

Showrunner Vivienne Medrano's boldly transgressive adult musical-comedy series, which sprang from a crowdfunded short, fully hit its stride in its sophomore season. Following the climactic events of the first season, the story broadens considerably, centering on the ambitious TV demon Vox who seizes command of the situation, sparking a chain of increasingly dramatic confrontations that inevitably end in elaborate musical numbers.

Although it may lack a single viral song on the level of season one's "Loser, Baby," this is due to each element in this season being more ambitious. The fight sequences, personal development, and especially the music are all elevated. The season advances the overarching plot forward while delivering no shortage of weird, unhinged, and ultimately entertaining dark fantasy.

8. Daredevil: Born Again

Following the acclaimed Netflix series, this series had immense expectations. Despite significant production challenges, the resulting show demonstrates it was worthy of the wait. The story follows Matt Murdock after his dual life as Daredevil is exposed, leaving him a target to foes both history and new threats in a slightly take of his well-known world.

The first episode is explosive, capturing the gritty feeling fans cherished from the original incarnation. While the subsequent chapters explore some different narrative ground, the first season finishes powerfully, setting viewers keenly anticipating a follow-up installment.

7. Common Side Effects

A surprising 2025 highlight, this show is essentially a crime saga filtered through a sensibility of King of the Hill. Helmed by Joe Bennett alongside comedy Steve Hely, it tells the saga of a mild-mannered fungi expert who finds a curative mushroom and soon finds himself hunted by forces including ruthless Big Pharma executives to government authorities.

Despite being a spoof, the narrative plays out with the grave intensity of a classic conspiracy thriller. Enhanced by trippy visuals and an unnerving score, the story explores bigger mysteries about the mushroom's true capabilities. It's a smart, visually striking, and utterly gripping first season.

6. Fallout Season 2

This hit adaptation based on the popular video game series returned with a second season of stories that deepened its sprawling lore and expanded its nuclear wasteland world. While it travels in the direction of the legendary location of New Vegas, the story is not a direct retelling of that game; instead, it further explore themes of authority and freedom.

The show skillfully balances several storylines and points of view, from the protagonist's quest for justice to Maximus's struggle with the dogma of the Brotherhood of Steel. The result is a rich layered and utterly engaging addition to the expanding Fallout saga.

5. Invincible Season 3

The bloody and heartfelt adult animation show keeps its powerful momentum in season 3. Mark Grayson confronts tremendous challenges on all side: training for a coming alien invasion, guiding his young sibling, and battling with his secretive Global Defense Agency. The story once again features some of the most intense action sequences the series has yet delivered.

Mark's bodily and psychological endurance are repeatedly tested. He must contend with foes more powerful than he is, the consequences of his actions, and the ethical burden of his decisions. Standout storylines for key characters like Cecil Stedman and Rex Splode complete a superb installment.

4. Peacemaker Season 2

The director's offbeat anti-hero show returned with elevated importance within the revamped DC canon, and it delivers on both count. While it effectively establishes groundwork for future DCU stories, it primarily presents a powerful and focused {
