Mikel Arteta Praises ‘More Reliable’ Squad and Confirms Kai Havertz Setback.

Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can continue to cope with injury setbacks after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been out since the summer after undergoing an operation on his knee. Initially expected to return at the start of this month, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when stepping up his training and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This news presents a selection headache for the midweek home game against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who came back off the bench as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also available following a lengthy absence.

Speaking about the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the next level and now the signs are like we have overcome that hurdle.”

He shared his eagerness to have him back. “The team is keen to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, for me, I admire greatly for his contributions to the team, but his mentality, his personality. I see him suffer while sidelined.”
