Additionally, far-right social media accounts sought to manipulate the event. A profile named “UK Nationalist”—with nearly 5,000 followers—circulated an baseless allegation that a knife-wielding man had been shouting “Allahu Akbar”.
Even after police confirmed that the arrested individuals were UK citizens, certain figures continued to suggest that details was being withheld. A former Reform UK co-leader stated it was “hard to believe” that the incident was not an act of terrorism, despite police assurances to the opposite.
