Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries according to reports.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in March.
