Cruise Halted Following Death of Woman Stranded on Tropical Isle

One two-month cruise around the Australian Coast has been cancelled in the wake of the tragic passing of an older lady who was left behind by the vessel on a distant island.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the tropical location with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a break. The vessel departed without her and returned after some time after the crew became aware the lady was missing.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are examining the incident, together with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that guests and staff on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".

Authorities also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" preventing any further travelers from boarding the liner.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in the Australian city upon its return.

The liner initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's death. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Guests on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the option of trekking or snorkeling.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "shocked and saddened that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my mum".

Via her announcement, she described her mum as an "energetic elderly person" who was a member of a hiking group.

"From the little information we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She continued that she desired the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have undertaken that might have protected Mum's existence".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"Officials suggested her to return, alone. Then the vessel sailed away, reportedly without conducting a headcount.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or shortly after, she succumbed, alone."

Organization Response

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "cooperating fully with investigators to support their examination".

He said that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had offered its full support to the loved ones.

The vessel accommodates up to a hundred twenty travelers with forty-six personnel, according to official data. It was specifically designed to enter remote regions of the nation's coastline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to take travelers on day excursions.
