Alcaraz Ready to Battle Non-Professionals in Million Dollar One Point Slam

Everyday tennis enthusiasts are being offered the possibility to earn A$1m when they take on tennis' top professionals - including top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz - in a single-point showdown prior to the year's first major

Organizers of the year's first Grand Slam have unveiled the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will match 10 amateur players against 22 professionals in a single-elimination format at the Australian Open venue

This Innovative Competition Operates

Competitors are set to play 'the classic hand game' to determine who takes the serve or return position, and whoever wins the point will move forward to the next round

The champion of the event will earn £490,000

By comparison, players who made it to the final four of the primary tournaments in the 2025 Australian Open won A$1.1m

Past Comparable Tournaments

The US Open staged a redesigned, independent combined gender tournament in late summer which prompted top singles players to take part, with the victors receiving $1m

The year's first major held its inaugural single-point competition in the current season, but the cash prize was a smaller amount and it received minimal attention

One top competitor was the sole elite competitor participating, and his campaign came to an end when he directed the one and only serve allowed failing to clear the net in his quarter-final

Competition Information

Planners have not specified precisely how the event will work, but it is expected to emulate a similar format to the previous version

The top competitors will be granted to have a single serve and the amateurs twice - as is the norm in standard play

While it is uncertain how the draw will work, there will be several competitive phases and the venue will be the main stadium rather than the alternative court

The concluding rounds will occur in a nighttime schedule instead of 1pm local time

Participation Requirements

Any Australians - or foreign participants who have enrolled with the governing body - can enter 'single-point competition' events at their neighborhood facilities

The victors of the community events will then go into a selection process, with an everyday competitor from every state and territory chosen to compete in the 'championship round' in a nighttime event on the specified date

There will also be a qualifying draw in the final month which non-professionals, aspiring competitors, famous personalities and athletic celebrities can enter

It commences on the starting date and the two winners will advance to Wednesday's 'final showdown' with the additional everyday players and elite competitors

"Regardless of your skill level, the ultimate winner will receive the reward. Applications will begin shortly at facilities across the country"

Event organizers stated there were "more big names to be unveiled imminently", while the tournament site indicated "celebrities" would be participating
